Straddling a corner of Brooklyn's increasingly trendy Bed-Stuy, you'll spot homey little Eugene & Co. by its sweet hanging planters and soft light emanating from its large windows. It's the kind of rustic, farm-to-table restaurant you might find tucked away in a small town in California; its exposed brick walls lined with artwork and hand-tufted banquettes.
Eugene & Co. also works with local farms and purveyors for its seasonally changing menu. There is cheese and charcuterie from Murray’s Cheese, salmon rillettes for lunch, quinoa salad, smoked salmon rillette sandwiches and roasted cauliflower steak, among a changing menu of dishes created by the chef Jeff Shields. Owner Tara Oxley is the former design director for BR Guest Hospitality, and has lived in the neighborhood for almost five years. The restaurant is named after her grandfather.
